SUMMARY:Running and Yoga Workshop to Become a Better Runner
DESCRIPTION:Many of us toss our running shoes away for the winter months and they reappear as the temperatures rise in the spring. Whether you are picking up running for the first time\, getting back into it or are an avid marathoner this workshop is designed to balance the demands of running and improve your overall functionality while hitting your optimal stride and pace.\nAlthough running is a great form of exercise\, it doesn’t work the body evenly. Many painful running injuries can be linked to muscle imbalances in strength and or flexibility. Furthermore\, these asymmetries can contribute to poor running form\, compounding the deleterious effects. This workshop is designed to teach you techniques to minimize injury risk and incorporate yoga for a well balanced routine.\nThis two hour workshop co-taught by physical therapist Melissa Belcher and certified yoga instructor Lauren Lauzier will cover common running hotspots\, such as tightness in the hips and hamstrings. Melissa will be conducting a functional strength & flexibility screen\, leading a brief discussion on running mechanics and guiding us in a dynamic warm up prior to a timed group 10 minute run. This is not intended to be a race but rather a chance to practice some of what you learn on a brief run so don’t worry about your pace! Lauren will conclude the workshop with a yoga class designed for runners and a deep relaxation\, this session will leave you feeling enthusiastic to lace up your sneakers!\nAdditional Details:\nParticipants will receive access to a private you tube video of a 45min yoga sequence for runners.\nWear clothing appropriate for running and yoga.\nBring a device for timing a 10 min run (watch\, phone\, etc.)\nAll yoga props and mats are provided.\nThis class is appropriate for all levels\, including beginners.
