SUMMARY:Gardiner Spring Tonic
DESCRIPTION:Gardiner Spring Tonic\nDate/Time: Thursday\, April 9th 4:30 – 7:00 PM\nLocation: Johnson Hall and downtown (Water Street) businesses\, Gardiner\nGardiner is set to shake off the long tough winter with a dose of Spring Tonic. From the A-1 Diner to Zardus Spa\, week-long promotions to put spring in your step will culminate with special events on April 9th. Modeled on art walks\, Spring Tonic is a wellness walk that celebrates National Public Health Week’s community day with Gardiner’s special flair. The event showcases many resources in and around Gardiner that contribute to wellness and community well-being with demonstrations\, information and special opportunities on Thursday April 9th\, at Johnson Hall and throughout downtown.\nGardiner is a national model for how a community comes together to create healthy living. Last summer\, a film crew from the US Centers for Disease Control and prevention arrived to film Gardiner’s Healthy Maine Streets programs in action. The video will make its Maine premiere on April 9 at Johnson Hall 6 PM as part of the Spring Tonic celebration.\nSpring tonic offers will bubble up all week. Gardiner’s eateries will highlight healthy menu and especially healthy beverage specials (several restaurants are promoting their own “spring tonics”). Other special events on the spring tonic menu including fitness demonstrations\, a movie on local agriculture\, classes on using natural ingredients to create healthful alternatives to sweetened sodas\, and another on making teas and tinctures\, as well as a class on how to tap your creativity. Themed retail specials range from seeds to athletic clothing.\nThe main Gardiner Spring Tonic event is a wellness fair featuring people who practice in or serve Gardiner. Visit downtown Gardiner to see demonstrations\, exhibits and information around the downtown and on stage and on exhibit at Johnson Hall from 4:30 to 7pm. We’ll be posting sneak peeks of what will be on tap as the event approaches. Demos include dance\, martial arts\, Zumba and hula-hooping. Therapists will show and explain massage\, reiki\, hypnotherapy\, chiropractic and other treatments. Learn where to get good food\, where to be active\, and how to connect with peers for support in making lifestyle changes. Celebrate the other things that keep us well—love\, healthy surroundings\, and laughter.\nWe’ll be adding events and specials all month. For more information\, and to find out about the specials being offered\, check out our website and Facebook event page @ http://www.gardinermainstreet.org/events/spring-tonic/ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/713423298766160/ \nIf you’d like to be an exhibitor\, volunteer\, or be part of the action\, contact Melissa Lindley @ info@gardinermainstreet.org

SUMMARY:Gardiner's Annual “Days of Light” Holiday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Gardiner Days of Light\nGet in the holiday spirit with Gardiner businesses and community members in our month-long celebration. \nGardiner Main Street Prepared for Festive Holiday Season \nGardiner’s annual “Days of Light” holiday celebration will be a little brighter this year; the annual parade featuring St. Nick has been moved to 4:30pm and will be themed “Parade of Lights”. Parade entrants are encouraged to walk\, dance\, or ride floats adorned with festive lights. The parade will begin at 4:30pm on Saturday\, Dec. 6th as night falls upon Gardiner.\nFollowing the parade\, Gardiner Main Street and area merchants offer a variety of Childrens’ activities and shopping opportunities throughout Downtown\, including sharing Christmas wishes with Santa in Johnson Hall\, cookie decorating at Founding Farmers\, a Cake Making competition for Johnson Hall’s 150th anniversary\, nostalgic holiday movies at Bam Jam Candy Shop\, and more. Before the parade\, the public will have a unique opportunity to ride in the horse drawn carriage that will carry Santa in the parade from 1:30-4:00pm. \nWith three new retailers located in Downtown Gardiner this holiday season\, shoppers will have more opportunities to support local businesses. Downtown Gardiner is an official location for “Small Business Saturday”\, Nov 29th\, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Gardiner’s “Cash Mob” organizers will be supporting a small business shopping frenzy of competitive shopping: From 1:00-4:30pm\, the shopper who spends the most in Downtown Gardiner\, and the shopper that buys from the greatest variety of businesses\, will receive a gift basket of prizes donated by local merchants. A gift wrapping station will be set up in Gerard’s Pizza. Friday nights in December\, many retailers will be open extended hours (until 7pm) for “Destination Downtown”\, with festive entertainment\, wreath sales. \nThroughout the holiday season\, the public is invited to participate in two ongoing contests; Elf on the Shelf and a judging a merchants’ Window Decorating Contest. Adapted from the popular children’s tradition\, our elf will be visiting various locations throughout Downtown Gardiner. The public is encouraged to find the elf and comment on his location at Gardiner Main Street’s Facebook page (‘selfies’ are encouraged\, as is use of #gardinerelf). The first to find him at each location will be entered into a prize drawing of a Gardiner gift basket. For the window decorating contest\, participating businesses will have ballots that members of the public may submit to name the most festive window display. Those that submit ballots will be entered into a separate prize drawing. \nGardiner’s annual tree lighting ceremony will take place\, as is tradition\, on the first day of December (Monday) with caroling\, dancing\, and hot chocolate beginning at 5:00pm\, and the tree lighting by Santa at 6pm. Details on these events\, parade registration (due Dec. 1st)\, and much more happening during “Days of Light” can be found at http://www.gardinermainstreet.org/events/gardiner-days-of-light/ . Gardiner’s Days of Light celebration is brought to you by Kennebec Savings Bank\, Lisa’s Legit Burritos\, and Wholistic Home Care of Maine.
